The ranges you'll see

According to Cueup, one of the most widely used DJ booking platforms in the US, the average DJ in Miami charges around $130 per hour, in a range of $90 to $180 per hour (public data, October 2026). For a 5-hour party, that's $450 to $900.

In practice, most DJs quote per event rather than per hour, and the number varies a lot with what's included. Two quotes with the same price can include very different things.

What changes the price

  • Hours. A 3-hour party doesn't cost the same as a wedding with cocktail hour and reception.
  • Equipment. Does the DJ bring their own sound or use the venue's? Bringing gear costs more, but removes a risk.
  • Venue size and guest count. A 200-guest ballroom needs more sound than a 30-person terrace.
  • Lighting and effects. Dance floor lights, uplighting, fog or cold sparks raise the price.
  • MC work. A DJ who also handles bilingual announcements brings more than one who only plays music.
  • The date. Saturdays, December and holidays book first.
  • Distance and setup. Far or hard-to-access venues take more time.

Pricing by event type

01

Weddings

Usually the longest: cocktail hour, reception and party, with a timeline to coordinate. That's why they get the highest quotes.

02

Quinceañeras

Lots of scripted moments (entrance, vals, surprise dance, hora loca) and big venues. More prep for the DJ.

03

Birthdays & house parties

Fewer hours and smaller gear. Usually the most affordable quotes.

04

Company parties

Depend on venue and schedule; sometimes include announcements and dinner background music.

Per hour or per event?

Hourly pricing works for short, simple parties. For weddings and quinceañeras, a per-event quote is clearer: it covers the agreed hours, equipment, setup and planning. Always ask what an extra hour costs in case the party runs long.

How to compare quotes

  • How many hours are included?
  • Does it include the DJ's own sound and lighting?
  • Is a microphone for toasts and announcements included?
  • What does an extra hour cost?
  • How much is the deposit, and what happens if you change the date?
  • Is the DJ quoting you the one who will actually play?

That last one matters: some agencies quote under one name and send a different DJ.

When cheap gets expensive

A DJ priced far below the market is usually saving on something: equipment, experience or punctuality. Before deciding on price alone, ask where they've played and request videos of real events. An empty dance floor costs more than the price difference.
